Bruce Walcheck and Jianming Wu Receive MN Ovarian Cancer Alliance Award
Cancer immunotherapy seeks to direct immune components against cancer cells. Natural killer (NK) cells are immune cells specialized at recognizing and killing malignant cells, and a key means of doing this is by their recognition of tumor-bound antibodies. Dr's. Bruce Walcheck and Jianming (Jimmy) Wu have engineered NK cells that express a chimeric receptor that binds tumor-bound antibodies with very high affinity and promotes robust NK cell activation and cancer cell killing. The focus of this 1 year study is to establish initial in vivo proof of concept for the anti-ovarian cancer activity of the engineered NK cells.
