Office for Equity and Diversity

We all share responsibility for equity and diversityit’s everybody’s everyday work. More than just numeric representation and access, we value having a diversity of views and experiences that enrich campus life and the academic experience. Equity and diversity is fundamental to everything we do at the University of Minnesota.

Campus Climate - Get involved and spread the word

Respect Everyone Every DayThe University of Minnesota respect everyone every day  supports a welcoming campus climate in which all persons are treated with respect. Toward that end, the University facilitates, sustains, and advances a culture that supports equity, inclusion, and community by fostering dialogue, respect, and personal growth. These purposeful activities and shared responsibility provide an environment that allows everyone the opportunity to succeed.

Bias Response & Referral Network

Bias Response NetworkA bias incident is an act of bigotry, harassment, or intimidation that is motivated in whole or in part by bias based on an individual's or group's actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Bias often stems from fear, misunderstanding, hatred, and stereotypes and may be intentional or unintentional.

The Bias Response and Referral Network (BRRN), along with other campus partners, works to respond to bias incidents on the Twin Cities Campus in ways that support those most impacted, promote education and dialogue, and affirm the University's commitment to equity and diversity, free speech, and academic freedom.

Office for Diversity in Graduate Education

The Graduate School Diversity Office coordinates and leads the University’s initiatives in the recruitment, funding, retention and graduation of a diverse graduate and professional student body. Additionally, their office works closely with other units connected to diversity and multiculturalism. Services include recruitment and consultation on the application process, academic support and mentoring, and outreach to graduate programs to enhance diverse student experiences.

Community of Scholars Program

Based in the Graduate School Diversity Office, the Community of Scholars Program (COSP) works towards creating an institutional environment that supports the academic and professional success of graduate students who are under-represented in academia. COSP assists students (US citizens and permanent residents) to more fully participate in the University; develop supportive relationships with advisors and mentors; build a sense of community through academic seminars and professional development workshops; and connect students to the Twin Cities and broader U of MN system through teaching, research and community engagement opportunities.

Graduate School Student Organizations

The Graduate School invites you to network and build a supportive community by becoming an active member in a graduate student organization.

Graduate Student & Postdoctoral Alliance for Diversity and Inclusion

The Alliance is a new graduate student and postdoc-led initiative intended to provide opportunities for all graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to work collectively on issues that support diversity and inclusion through education, advocacy, networking, discussion, cross-pollination, recognition and celebration. The Alliance is an effort to respond to graduate students' and postdocs' interest in reaching across disciplinary and cultural barriers to connect with others to affect institutional change.

Disability Resource Center

The University of Minnesota values diverse identities and experiences, and honors disability as an important aspect of human diversity. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) works in partnership with students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University to eliminate or minimize barriers and facilitate inclusion on campus.
